2021 Call for Officer Nominations

The Society’s Nominating Committee, chaired by Immediate Past President Pietro Miazzo, MD, will present its recommendations for the PPS offices of President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, two Councilor Representatives, and four Resident Representatives at an upcoming meeting of the PPS Council.

We anticipate a vacant seat in the position of Secretary, and four Resident Representatives.

According to the by-laws, nominations can also be made by nomination of alternative candidates from the floor, at any meeting prior to the election after the Nominating Committee has presented their nominations to the Council. All nominations must be accompanied by the proposed candidate’s acceptance of the nomination.

Interested candidates should submit their name, explanation of interest, and a copy of their CV to the attention of Dawn Losiewicz via email at philapsych@papsych.org. The submission deadline is Friday, March 12, 2021. The nominating committee, chaired by Pietro Miazzo, MD, will review all submissions and make their recommendation to council for final approval at the next meeting.

Secretary is an elected position with terms of one year beginning in June 2021, with the possibility of re-election to the next highest office in 2022. Eligible candidates include active general members in good standing. Candidates are expected to participate in PPS council meetings which are held via Zoom, or in-person when possible. These positions provide the opportunity to have a voice on important practice issues in the Philadelphia region as well as across Pennsylvania and to have a platform with which to express any areas of concern for the membership at large.

Now Accepting Poster Submissions
The deadline for poster submission is Monday, April 5, 2021.

Residents, fellows, and medical students are strongly encouraged to present posters at the meeting. Barring unusual circumstances, all posters submitted will be accepted for presentation since the Society’s aim is to encourage students and residents to present posters.

There will be two categories that will be judged separately: Case Reports and Original Research. Case Reports can be an easy way for students and residents to take their first steps towards presenting posters at a meeting. For the category of Original Research, the presenter must have had a substantial role in conducting the research or analyzing the data for presentation. Prizes along with certificates will be awarded separately in each of the two categories. Names and photographs of the winners will also be published in transactions, the newsletter of the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society. All poster presenters will receive a certificate of participation and are encouraged to note their participation on the CVs.
